Palermo
The capital of the Italian island of Sicily is Palermo. While the enormous neoclassical Teatro Massimo is well-known for opera performances, the Palermo Cathedral, built in the 12th century, is home to royal tombs. The Cappella Palatina, which has Byzantine mosaics, and the Palazzo dei Normanni, a royal house that dates to the ninth century, are also in the centre. Popular marketplaces include the Vucciria, which is close to the port, and the central Ballar street market.
Norman Palace
The Palazzo dei Normanni or Royal Palace of Palermo is a palace in Palermo, Italy.
Pompeii (Mount Vesuvius)
Mt. Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD and completely buried the city of Pompeii. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with fascinating ruins that hint of a once-thriving city.
