Oceania Marina for a 10-Day Northern Europe Cruise

In August of 2023 my daughter and I were lucky enough to be invited to sail on Oceania’s Marina for a 10-day northern Europe cruise joining Tricia Wolf (SVP) and other cruise line executives.  We visited Germany, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Finland, and Sweden.  Before the recent invasion of Ukraine, St Petersburg would have been part of this cruise, but it is not likely to be offered again until things normalize. Fortunately, there is so much more to see in this part of the world.  Unique itineraries like this one often set Oceania apart from others. We had perfect weather and enjoyed being tourists walking the streets, taking tours, and seeing the sights.

"Foodie" Cruise Line

If you’ve never been on Oceania, it’s time to give them a try.  Known as the “Foody” cruise line, in addition to their Terrace, which is self-serve (with lobster every night should you wish), or their grand dining room, you have 4 specialty dining restaurant choices (with no extra charges) on their larger (yet still small in today’s world with around 1200 capacity) ships Riviera, Marina and even more on their soon to be launched Vista.  We got a taste and probably over- indulged upon experiencing the new Vista menu.  We also were treated to their very special La Reserve (this is an extra cost) which paired wines with many courses of fine dining.  This makes for a beautiful evening and will be a life-long memory.  It’s well worth it, but has limited capacity, so book in advance.

Country Club Casual

Their smaller ships (at 680 Pax) Regatta, Insignia, Nautica & Sirena are beautifully refurbished and are able to visit lighter capacity and unique ports around the world. Their world cruise is absolutely incredible for those that have 180 days to travel!

Oceania is country club casual every day – there is no need to put on a jacket and tie, which I personally appreciate. While I understand that some travellers like formal nights on cruise ships, this is becoming less of a priority these days. A pair of Docker type pants and an open collared shirt is fine for the gents and ladies can dress comfortably. Saying this, go fancy should you wish – you won’t be the only ones!

Entertainment was surprisingly good. They don’t put on productions like you see on the monster ships and not reason #1 people go on them. There are no water slides, wave-surfing, go cart tracks or big gaming. While there certainly were family groups onboard, most were boomer or younger folk that wanted a less hectic vacation experience.
